Who I Follow

Please contradict me with awesome fanfic recs! I’m trying to write some of these, but I thought it couldn’t hurt to ask for more. My fandoms include Avengers, Xmen First Class, Dragon Age, Mass Effect and Inception. Squicks include incest and non-con.

1. Single parent heroine lead.

2. Deeply religious hero(ine), any religion.

3. Stories centred on an older, female lead. Anyone old enough to have grey hair qualifies. Give me dark and shady pasts revealed slowly over time, constantly changing eyeglass prescriptions, and a goofy morning after with a young man who was surprised by his attraction and then surprised by how great the sex was. (I’ve seen stories with older male leads, but I won’t say no to more!)

4. Stories that are tied to their fandom not just by the characters, but by the world they inhabit. If I’m reading Dragon Age I want to see dragons, if I’m reading Inception I want to see faceless corporations chasing people around the globe. There are fics like this out there, but I’ve spent the last three days reading fics that could’ve taken place in my boring hometown. At this moment I hope I never read another coffee shop AU. Gimme some adventure!

5. Stories where the lead has a disability. I’ve found a few Xavier/Magneto fics that deal with this, but I’d like more!

6. Stories about people who want to become parents. Many stories are about people wanting to fall in love and live happily ever after, but I’ve yet to see one about someone who wants to become a parent, and can’t wait to share the joys and troubles of it with someone. Bonus points for someone who’s done this before helping the young couple with the sleepless nights and the teething and whatever else.

7. Stories with fundamentally differing viewpoints presented, and no conclusion given. Often I see characters arguing things and there’s only one viewpoint presented. I’d like to see an author argue both sides of a debate without endorsing one side or the other. The characters have their beliefs, but the author remains silent on the subject.
